Halloween 2011

Brian Wilson and the mohawk was going to be a tough act to follow, so we went with the Incredible Hulk.

And none of this store bought costume business, either. Think old school, Lou Ferrigno Hulk. We painted Marco green, ripped his clothes and taught him a couple choice phrases, "Hulk Smash!" and "You wouldn't like me mad."

Then he started to seem a little scary, so we told him he should come up with some nice Hulk things to say so that he didn't scare the (very few) girls at school. So, he worked in, "Hulk like flowers!" I thought it was pretty sweet.

As you can see, by the time the school parade started, the Hulk was turning back into Bruce Banner, mostly around the face. (Next time - industrial paint!) Super Grandma came to the school parade with cousin Lucy in tow. Jeff even managed to sneak by for the visit.

Here's some proof:

At night, we had our friends over for grown up Mac 'n Cheese (bacon, three cheeses, green beans...) and roadie trick or treating on the most packed street in our hood. Minnie Mouse, the Superhero siblings, Peter Pan and the Hulk had a BLAST.

Marco loved all the scary decorations, people hiding to scare the kids and he's still talking about a boy dressed as a headless man.

Best of all, we found another treat Marco liked. Pumpkin seeds!

(Would you have guessed that Jeff made the girl pumpkin?)

Structural Engineer

I was just telling the other Sara that Marco doesn't show the same enjoyment, flair and talent for drawing that Joey does. And then he constructed this...

I'm impressed! Sculpturist? Or, structural engineer?

Golf Buddies.

The golf conditioning continues, with the lefty and the righty.
Notes from the range:

The goal is to tuck ourselves in a corner, not disturb anyone and maybe enjoy a beer.  But alas, friendly Marco always strikes.

Marco (to guy next to us): "Wow!  Good job!  You hit that far and hit a tree!"
Guy: "Well, yeah, I wasn't really supposed to hit the tree."
Marco: "Ohhhhhh."

Happiness is...

I think happiness is having a child who wants to make you happy.  Although I do feel a little like one of those erratic, abusive mothers from the Lifetime Channel when Marco periodically checks in, "Are you happy now Mama?"  "If I get dressed and listen, will you be happy again Mama?"  "Do I make you happy now Mama?"

He always wants to know the quickest way back in good graces.  After I had a serious you're-in-trouble talk with Marco, we all three sat in silence.  Jeff murmured something to me and I chuckled.  Marco leans over to Jeff and whispers, "Dada... what did you say to make Mama laugh?"
("Maverick?  What did your mother not like you or something?")
