Centerfield

Marco has really been enjoying Tee Ball.  He begs to play catch daily - even at 6 a.m. - and is showing major improvement.  But his affinity for being an "Arkansas Natural" isn't quite as great as his love for his cousins.  He loves playing on Clara's team, and pretty much thinks Joey walks on water.  Getting pumped up for his game only requires listening to "Joey's song," (aka, Put Me in Coach) as many times as we'll oblige.

After a tee ball game and sleepover with his cousins he said to me, "When am I going to get to stay at my real home again?  You know, with Joey."

Here are some pics from his season:

Let Them Eat Cake

I wish I could bottle every conversation with 5-year old Marco. Each is filled with innocence and discovery and fun.

Here's my best effort to recount our latest.

"Mom, that guy is scary and I see him all the time."

"Yes, he does seem scary, but he's just a man who doesn't have a home, so he doesn't have a place to sleep or shower or wash his clothes, like you do."

"Well, that's not fair. I guess there's really no place for him in the world - that's why he's so dirty. And also I guess he can't have any 'stuff' either. It's really sad Mom. I wish he could have a home. But... I guess he'll just have to live in a hotel or something."

Such a serious conversation considering he looked like this...

Buddy

Jeff and I attended a very fun new kindergarten parents' cocktail hour at Corpus Christi, where we met many excited parents and received this sweet note.

The next morning, Marco said we could take the note back. I opened it and found this gem...

Teeth Fairy

The tooth fairy has been working over time in our neighborhood. Marco lost his second tooth and Nolan, his first.

Marco begged Jeff to pull out this tooth after days of wiggling. Jeff finally obliged... at a neighborhood happy hour amidst hoots and cheers from adults and kids alike.

The bounty? Three dollars promptly stuffed into his pocket to spend at Shane's Chuck E Cheese E Cheese birthday party. :)

Flattery

Marco asked Jeff if he was faster than me.

"I think I'm faster than Mama if it's a really short race.  But Mama can run a lot longer than me."

I was so flattered!

"That's because she's not a little bit chubby like you, right Dad?"

Jeff: "I'm so flattered he only said a 'little bit'!"
